Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has expressed commitment to evolve mechanisms through which the entirety of cultural beliefs, values, heritage and artifacts of Kogi people can be reformed for possible global recognition that could lead to foreign exchange earnings.
Governor Ododo gave the hint at the 2024 Ogidi Day celebration in Ogidi community, Ijumu Local Government Area where he was a Special Guest in a series of events commemorating this year’s celebration of Ogidi Day.
The Governor who was represented by Kogi State Auditor-General for Local Government, Honourable Siyaka Yakubu Adabenege (popularly known as Fancy) said Ogidi Day Celebration is not just a festival but a time to reflect on the essence of our cultural heritage, honor the legacy of our ancestors, and to celebrate the unique customs, art, music, and dance that define the uniqueness of community.
He further noted that the cultural fabric of Ogidi is woven with threads of history, tradition, and a profound sense of belonging urging that the festival is not merely a relic of the past but a living, evolving entity that shapes the present and future.
While appreciating the indelible positive contributions made by many illustrious personalities of Ogidi origin towards nation building, Governor Ododo revealed that his administration shall be rolling out series of initiatives that will be aimed at enhancing Ogidi Day and other cultural activities across the state.
“These initiatives will not only enhance the festival experience for both locals and visitors but also ensure that Ogidi becomes a key destination on the global cultural tourism map.
“First and foremost, we will invest in infrastructure development to ensure that Ogidi is well-equipped to host an increasing number of visitors.
“This includes improving road networks, upgrading public facilities, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the community. We will work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure that these developments are sustainable and beneficial to the local population. By improving infrastructure, we can provide a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for tourists and create an environment that is conducive to the growth of cultural tourism”, he said.
Alhaji Ododo who mentioned rehabilitation of roads, provision of primary health care centers, agricultural intervention, distribution of over 105 patrol van for vigilantees across the 21 Local Government Areas and prompt payment of salary as few out of his many achievements in the office, promised the people of Ogidi community of more government’s presence in terms of tangible projects.
Fancy Media Team (FMT) observed that the annual event which is also a platform for reunion for the people of Ogidi community was well attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, traditional rulers from within and outside the state and top government functionaries.
