Okun Journalists Get New Excos, Seek Gratuity Payment For LG Workers, Teachers

The Forum of Okun Media Professionals (FOMP), has inaugurated new executives to pilot the affairs of the forum to greater heights.

The Forum of Okun Media Professionals is a group of Journalists from the Yoruba speaking part of Kogi State.

The new executive members were sworn-in on Friday at NUJ Press Centre Lokoja.

They are; Femi Olugbemi, Chairman; Bolu Obahopo, Secretary; Stephen Adeleye, Financial Secretary; Yemi Balogun, Treasurer while Emmanuel Oluwakorede is the Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Inaugurating the Executives, the Chairman, Credential Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Adeyemi charged the new leadership to sustain the good legacies of the founding fathers of the forum.

Adeyemi urged the new excos to prioritize the unity and wellbeing of members, and surpassed the achievements of the previous administration.

In his remarks, the out-gone Chairman, Prince Friday Ogungbemi, urged the excos to always carry members along in their decision making and prayed for wisdom and courage to serve the forum in all sincerity.

In his inaugural speech, the forum’s new Chairman, Chief Femi Olugbemi, appreciated the members for the opportunity giving to the new excos to serve in the interest of the forum in their various capacities.

Olugbemi appealed to all members to be good ambassadors of the forum, stressing the need to conduct themselves in a manner, devoid of any character that would dent their image in the state.

“On behalf of the New Executive, I want to appreciate the entire members for reposing their confidence in our ability to take the forum to another level of development for the mutual benefit of all members.

“The new assignment before us is tasking hence we solicit for the support and cooperation of all members as that is the only way we can achieve our aims and objectives of bringing ourselves together to work for the growth and development of the forum and Okunland.

“To the executive members, let us see this task as a call to service and it is a task that must be accomplished, because it is a rare privilege to be called upon to serve.

“It is my pledge that the New Executive will work as a team for the overall interest of all members and the region we represent without fear or favor,” he said.

Olugbemi, a seasoned journalist further commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the prompt payment of workers’ salaries in the State.

He commended the governor on the tremendous improvement on the salaries of Local Government workers, primary school teachers and other initiatives, geared towards improving the livelihood of the people of the state.

He, however, appealed to the governor, to as a matter of priority put in motion the process of paying gratuity of the local government pensioners and that of the primary school teachers, stressing that many of them were facing challenges beyond their monthly pension.
