After months of hard work and dedication, Kogi State University (KOSU), Kabba, has concluded its first academic calendar of 2023/2024 with students completing their final examinations on Friday, September 27th. The university, which admitted 1,200 new students in December 2023, officially commenced academic activities on January 16, 2024.
During a media briefing with journalists on the campus of the university, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Kehinde Eniola highlighted a number of significant events and achievements. These included an agribusiness exhibition by students from the Business Administration department, two presentations from the department of Theatre Arts; African Communication Day organized by the Department of Mass Communication.
On community development, the VC, was humorously dubbed the “Apostle of Digital Education” following his presentation at the Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, Oyo State as a guest speaker. Additionally, he had delivered a paper at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The Vice Chancellor also noted that a total of 101 students in the university have also benefitted from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) of the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government.
In his address, the VC expressed gratitude to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and current Governor, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman, for their unwavering support and contributions to the success of the institution. He also commended Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, the Provost of Kogi State College of Education (Technical), and various other individuals and organizations for their support.
On the goodwill enjoyed from stakeholders to the university, the VC noted that the university has received several donations including a set of classroom furniture from Okun Development Association – North America (ODA-NA).
Various management staff, faculty deans, and heads of units were present at the briefing, as well as members of staff and the press.
Looking ahead, the VC announced that the school will resume the 2024/25 academic session in November 2024, stressing that 1,750 qualified candidates that picked the university as their first choice would be given admission for 2024/2025 academic calendar. He also mentioned that measures have been put in place to ease transportation challenges, with the support of Hon. Kajotoni and other individuals providing transportation for staff and students.
The VC appealed to individuals, partners, and philanthropists to support in the provision of more means of transportation to further alleviate transportation issues faced by the university community.
During the media briefing, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oshaloto, expressed heartfelt appreciation to his media colleagues for their attendance and support, assuring them of the commitment of the Vice Chancellor to providing timely and comprehensive information for the public through the media.
Oshaloto emphasized the importance of a strong relationship between the university and the press in disseminating accurate and relevant information to the public.
