Global Health and Indigent Care Foundation (GHICF) recently held the third edition of their annual Scholarship and Educational Assistance Program (SEAP) award ceremony at Ayetoro-Gbede, Kogi State. The program, organized and sponsored by GHICF, a nonprofit Foundation founded by Dr. Samuel Oloyo and Mrs. Julie Olufunmilola Oloyo based in the USA, aims to support students in their education and social development.
According to Richard Olonishuwa, Chairman of the SEAP Committee, the total financial implication for this year’s various interventions in education and community development in the 2 benrgitting communities, Ayetoro-Gbede and Igbaruku by the Foundation is N17.7M. Olonishuwa emphasized the importance of promoting excellence and competition among students, particularly in STEM subjects and the use of English language.
The focus of this yearly scholarship program, which draws beneficiaries from public secondary school and tertiary institutions, was to recognize and award students who excelled in their studies. Awards such as tablets, school backpacks, cash awards, and support for teachers and schools were provided to deserving recipients. The program aimed to encourage more students to pursue STEM-related courses and excel in their academic pursuits.
Dr. Samuel Oloyo expressed his gratitude to the members of the committee for their hard work and dedication in organizing the program. He also encouraged the beneficiaries to strive for excellence in their studies and make the most of the opportunities presented to them.
The SEAP award ceremony was a resounding success, with students, teachers, and community members coming together to celebrate academic achievement and the spirit of excellence. GHICF’s commitment to supporting education and community development in Nigeria was evident throughout the event, showcasing the foundation’s dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of young people.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Wemi Jones FCIB, the Honourable Commissioner for Education in Kogi State, commended the Global Health and Indigent Care Foundation for its unwavering dedication to supporting education in the state. He lauded the foundation’s efforts in uplifting students and communities through their scholarship programs.
The Commissioner articulated the State Government’s commitment to education to include the plan to cover the costs of examinations for students in public schools for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic session. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on parents and allow students to focus on their studies.
Furthermore, Hon. Wemi Jones urged individuals and organizations with the capacity to follow the example set by the Global Health and Indigent Care Foundation. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in supporting education and empowering students to reach their full potential. By emulating the foundation’s gesture, more students can receive the necessary assistance to excel academically and contribute positively to their communities.
